What does Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego do for the community?
Our Mission: By operating the Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a home-away-from-home for children and their families while the child is treated for serious, often life-threatening illnesses at San Diego hospitals. Our Purpose: The Ronald McDonald House is open seven days a week, 365 days a year, in order to provide lodging to family members of sick children who otherwise might sleep in hospital waiting rooms, in their car or drive long distances home and back. We also provide a Family Care Center within the House, for use during the day for anyone with a child in the hospital. In the last year at our former 12-bedroom House on Berger Avenue, we provided housing for 43 families per month, and offered a reprieve during the day for 1,200 families per month. With the opening of our new 47-bedroom House in July 2009, we expect to serve 20,000 families per year by providing bedrooms and a Family Care Center to those who need us. It costs nearly $140 per night to provide a bedroom to a family, which often includes siblings and the sick child. Studies show that when family members stay close their ailing child, the child heals better and family members cope better. A bed near the hospital, a warm meal, a hot shower and access to laundry facilities, a computer lab and many other services, can make all the difference to those who sit by their sick child's bedside day in and day out. Because of our new, larger Ronald McDonald House, we can provide so many more families the comfort and necessities needed to cope when their lives are turned upside down by their child's illness. We care for families so they can care for their kids.

How much of my contribution stays with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego?
Your entire donation benefits the families we serve at the San Diego Ronald McDonald House.

Does the Ronald McDonald House receive funding from the McDonald's Corporation?
The generosity of the McDonald's Corporation comes mainly through the contributions of the local McDonald's Restaurant owner/operators, through collection boxes in their restaurants, and various promotions throughout the year, totaling about 10 percent of the operating budget.

Are families charged for their stay at the Ronald McDonald House?
Even though our actual cost to provide services is nearly $140 per night, we only ask families for a $40 deposit when they arrive, and charge $10 per night. In keeping with our mission to provide a home away from home for children and their families while in medical crisis, we do not turn any family away for lack of ability to pay. We do encourage and facilitate each family to assist us in underwriting their stay by inviting support from other family members, friends, and co-workers. For thirty years, we have fulfilled that mission with the generous support of corporations and individuals like you in our community.

Can I visit the House, and see the programs my donation will support?
Absolutely! Our doors are always open to tours, well, at least during the day or evening. We encourage visits, by individuals and groups, so that donors can see firsthand how important their gifts and support are to the families who benefit. Simply call the offices at 858-467-4750 to arrange for a visit. We are very proud of this new House, and always enjoy sharing it with our supporters.

Is my donation to Kick for Kids tax deductible?
Yes, gifts to RMHC-SD are deductible to the extent allowable by law. Consult your accountant for details. We are a registered California Non-Profit 501(c)(3). Our federal tax ID is 95-3251940.

Can I make a single donation instead of a pledge?
Yes, you may choose to make a one-time donation. Nate kicked 27 regular season field goals last season, his best as a pro, and we expect him to kick that many or more this season, so you might factor this in when deciding on the amount of your donation. You may also make payments against your pledge throughout the season, rather than waiting until the end of the season to make a lump sum payment. Watch for the Nate's weekly bulletins to figure your donation amount to that date.

May I designate my gift to a specific House program or project?
All Kicks for Kids campaign donations are designated to our general operating budget. If you would like to donate to a specific program, we would be more than happy to accept and honor your written designation, outside the Kicks for Kids campaign.
