But we can only provide these important services with your help.
And you can help one kick at a time.

Ronald McDonald House receives 15 percent of funding from McDonald’s restaurants, but over 80% of our budget is funded by the community – people like you.

How else can you help?

Volunteer at the House or in our administrative office.  As a volunteer, you can bring a group of friends or co-workers to cook dinner for our families, help at events, answer the phone or check families in and out of the House.

Participate in special events. Whether it’s a round of golf at one of San Diego’s finest courses or a celebration honoring our closest friends, RMHC-SD has several wonderful events every year: Annual Gala, Golf Tournament, Casino Night, and Dream House Raffle.”

Organize a fundraiser or wish list drive. Be creative! Gather your classmates, colleagues or friends for a car wash, bake sale, or wish list drive to support our families. Whether it’s canned food or holiday presents, you can help! Please contact our office to learn what we need and how we can work together.”

About Ronald McDonald House of San Diego

In 1974, Philadelphia Eagles football player Fred Hill had a daughter who was diagnosed with leukemia. After spending countless hours in the hospital during her treatment, he saw a need for a home where families could find lodging and support while their children were being treated in the hospital. He drew the support of McDonald’s Founder, Ray Kroc, who gained the support of others, and the first Ronald McDonald House was born.

Since opening in December 1980, Ronald McDonald House of San Diego has provided a “home-away-from-home” for more than 14,000 families and provided more than 140,000 nights of lodging. The House requests a nominal donation for a night’s stay but accepts any family, regardless of their ability to pay.  It costs nearly $140 per night per family to provide services to each family. Only 25 percent of the families who stay at the House are able to pay even a small amount towards that cost.

When children are sick in the hospital, families are turned upside down. Ronald McDonald House of San Diego makes life easier for them.

A
t Ronald McDonald House, families find comfort as they try to maintain life’s necessities – sleep, food rest – while caring for their sick child.

J
ust recently, we opened a new House across from Rady Children’s Hospital to serve many more families in crisis.

T
he new House has 47 bedrooms and a Family Care Center where anyone with a child in the hospital can visit during the day to find a sanctuary during difficult times. Here, families can take a nap, eat a meal, play in a playroom, get on the computer, reflect in our chapel, even get a haircut. We expect to serve 20,000 families per year in this new House.

In June 2009, RMHCSD opened a new, larger 47-bedroom House directly across the street from the entrance to Rady Children’s Hospital. The new 65,000 square foot House has more bedrooms – 47 compared to 12 in our other House – and a new Family Care Center that helps make life easier for families during the day.

The new Family Care Center is like none other in the world. It serves as a day resource for families with sick children, providing necessities to make their lives easier as they go through the most difficult times of their lives. The resources include dining services, computer lab, children’s play room, teen center, chapel, arts and crafts room, exercise room, TV room, nap room, laundry facilities, and even a beauty salon.

T
he organization is currently embarking on a $17 million capital campaign to fund the new House.

We really need the support of the community to help Ronald McDonald House grow into our new House. Here’s how you can help:
